We are searching for our next experienced Construction Superintendent with a demonstrated ability in all phases of project supervision and leadership. The ideal candidate has a minimum of 8 years’ experience in multi-family residential and/or commercial building, and possesses extensive knowledge of structural concrete, steel, and/or wood frame construction.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing the overall safety of the job site and all surrounding areas, as you work to achieve positive safety results. This is our highest priority.
  • Ensuring that each project is delivered to the client with the highest level of quality.
  • Developing the project schedule and effectively managing all schedule dates to meet milestones and completion date.
  • Effectively managing the cost of work to ensure that costs do not exceed budget.
  • Facilitating communication and management of the job site; ensuring that all parties are aware of their responsibilities and are informed of project status and expectations.
  • Ensuring project records are processed and maintained as required, and that the project logistics support the schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • You hold a high school diploma (or equivalent); a four-year degree in building science, construction management or engineering, preferred. A relevant combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • You have a minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in construction and supervision experience.
  • You can demonstrate experience in multi-family residential, commercial, healthcare, tenant improvement, and/or rehab construction.
  • You are knowledgeable in computer programs including Excel, Word, Outlook, MS Project, and project management systems such as Bluebeam and Viewpoint.
  • You are a positive team player who is skilled in efficiency, organization, and multi-tasking.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Project Manager for our Portland, Oregon office.  Our ideal candidate will have a proven record of accomplishment in all phases of project management including estimating, documentation, owner/architect relations, cost monitoring, problem solving and project wrap up. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Client & Architect Management – Managing client and architect relations.

  • Project Preconstruction – Leading preconstruction services ensuring accurate project estimates and bids are provided.
  • Contract Management & Administration, Risk Administration – Managing the risk of each project by ensuring compliance with the prime contract, subcontracts and supply agreements. Verifying owner’s ability to pay and monitors subcontractors’ financial capacity.
  • Financial Management – Managing all financial aspects of the project including establishing and monitoring the budget and ensuring positive cash flow on the project.
  • Project Performance – Overall project performance including: budget, quality, schedule, safety, team management, closeout & warranty.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • You have a four-year degree in construction management, engineering, building sciences or equivalent experience.
  • You have a minimum of 10 years of experience in the construction industry (required) and previous experience as a superintendent (preferred).
  • You have 5+ years of project management experience on multi-family housing and commercial construction projects, a background in the construction trades, and a solid technical knowledge of wood frame and concrete structures.
  • You possess a thorough working knowledge of wood frame and commercial construction as related to all disciplines and phases of construction.  
  • You have the ability to manage a wide range of small and large construction projects.
  • You have a proven record of accomplishment in all phases of construction project management, including estimating, documentation, owner/architect relations, cost monitoring, problem solving and project wrap-up.
  • You are efficient, organized, capable of effective multi-tasking and a positive-minded team player.

Apprenticeship Coordinator

Northwest College of Construction is accepting applications for a full-time Apprenticeship Coordinator.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Apprenticeship Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of managing craft training apprenticeship programs. Duties include:

  • Dispatch of apprentices to contractors which requires frequent and articulate
    communication with both the apprentices and the training agents (employers).
  • Management of apprenticeship records to ensure the apprenticeship requirements for both classroom and on-the-job training meet or exceed the requirements of the Bureau of Labor and Industry and the accrediting agency of the college.
  • Acting as the Program Liaison between the college, the apprentices and the employers.
  • Represent the college at career fairs and other events for the purpose of recruitment of students and apprentices.
  • Conduct orientations for incoming new apprentices.
  • Meet with applicants to complete BOLI paperwork to become a registered apprentice.
  • Prepare committee meeting agendas and minutes.
  • Assist with the front office tasks, including answering phones and greeting walk-ins.
  • Incumbent will digitize bookkeeping invoices and develop a process to crosscheck documents for accuracy across departments.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 1+ year(s) experience as an Apprenticeship Coordinator preferred.
  • For the right candidate, we will accept 3+ years’ administrative/clerical experience with no or little Apprenticeship Coordinator experience.
  • Experience with apprenticeship trade programs, preferred.
  • Proficient with MS Office products, database management and report generation, and spreadsheet development.
  • Experience with FileMaker Pro is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize projects and meet strict deadlines.
  • Attention to detail is necessary.

JOB DESCRIPTION

This position is for a HVAC sheet metal worker in our commercial construction department.

The right candidate will have excellent technical skills and outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. This person must have the ability to work in a fast paced environment and must also possess a high degree of integrity and the ability to analyze a variety of problems and work independently. This position requires mature judgment and initiative.  Time management and organizational skills are also essential.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 3 years experience in commercial HVAC sheet metal industry.
  • Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Familiarity with LEED construction practices and commissioning is a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Uses hand and power tools to cut, punch, flange, shear, and solder sheet metal ducts and parts.
  • Select gauge and type of sheet metal according to product being fabricated and knowledge of metal.
  • Locate and mark dimensions and reference lines on metal sheets.
  • Lay out openings and coordinates with other trades.
  • Inspects assemblies and installation for conformance with specifications.
  • Erect air handling equipment.
  • Reads and interprets system blueprints, specifications, and performance data to determine proper configuration and arrangement of system components.
  • Maintaining proper documentation of daily work using work orders.
