Tile

Two tile programs are offered at the college. Tile Finishers is an introductory one-year apprenticeship program. Tile Setters is a more advanced three-year program.

Job Description

Tile Finishers supply and mix construction materials, prep tiled areas, apply grout, finish surface areas and clean tiled surfaces. They move installation materials, tools, machines and work devices to work areas. Tile Setters install ceramic tile, marble and granite.

Working Conditions

Tile Trades work is physically demanding and involves a great deal of standing, climbing, kneeling, lifting and squatting. Working conditions will vary with each job. Work will be both indoors and outdoors, and could include working above or below ground. Apprenticeship applicants must also meet certain strength requirements, be agile, and have good hand-eye coordination.

Minimum Qualifications

Apprenticeship applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Length of Apprenticeship

Tile Finishers Classroom Hours: A minimum of 144 hours per year for 1 year On-the-Job Training: 2,000 hours (approx. 1 years) Tile Setters Classroom Hours: A minimum of 144 hours per year for 3 years On-the-Job Training: 6,000 hours (approx. 3 years)
