JOB DESCRIPTION
Carpenters build or remodel almost all structures, including houses and commercial buildings, bridges, churches, factories and highways.
They work with power and hand tools to build wood framing for houses, roofs, stairs, decks and sheaths, and forms for concrete.
Carpenters install doors, windows and handrails, build cabinets and counter tops. Carpenters perform interior and exterior finish work. They read blueprints, measure accurately and calculate dimensions.

APPRENTICESHIP INFORMATION:
Carpenters build or remodel almost all structures, including houses and commercial buildings, bridges, churches, factories and highways.
They work with power and hand tools to build wood framing for houses, roofs, stairs, decks and sheaths, and forms for concrete.
Carpenters install doors, windows and handrails, build cabinets and counter tops. Carpenters perform interior and exterior finish work. They read blueprints, measure accurately and calculate dimensions.
Carpenter work is very physical and involves standing, climbing, kneeling, lifting and squatting. Carpenters must be in good health, agile and have good hand-eye coordination. Work conditions vary with each job.
Carpentry apprenticeship applicants must be at least 18 years of age with proof of high school graduation or general education development (GED) equivalent.
Classroom Hours: A minimum of 144 hours per year for 4 years
On-the-Job Training: 8,000 hours (approx. 4 years)

Starting Wage: $19.20 /hr
Journey Worker: $32.00 /hr
LANE / DOUGLAS CARPENTERS:
Starting Wage: $17.60 /hr
Journey Worker: $32.00 /hr

If you are brand new to the construction industry, we highly recommend starting out with the CONSTRUCTION CRAFT LABORERS APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM.
This program is a fantastic starting point for those who aren’t entirely sure which craft they want to commit to.
You’ll learn about what it takes to work in construction and immediately start building a resume for your future. Some of our carpentry apprentices START OUT in the Construction Craft Laborers apprenticeship program and transfer over after gaining more experience out in the field.
APPLICATION INFORMATION:
OREGON-COLUMBIA CARPENTERS (Portland, OR area)
- Provide proof of at least 18 years of age with:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Education Substitution: applicant in good standing with 2,000 on-the-job hours. 1st year related training and good standing with a Laborers JATC may be substituted in lieu of a high school diploma or GED.
- or: Completion of an Associated Degree or higher that is recognized by the Department of Education.
- or: Test scores within 12 months on Alex, COMPASS or Accuplacer with placement at or above Math 20 or higher, Reading 115 or higher & Writing 101 or higher; or completion of the equivalent ABE course.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Submit documentation for points for ranking placement.

- valid drivers license, military, education, certifications, work experience documented on company letterhead and completion of BOLI approved pre-apprenticeship.

DOUGLAS COUNTY CARPENTERS (Roseburg, OR area)
- Provide proof of at least 18 years of age with:
- High School Diploma or GED.

Complete the online application and select the date for the next Applicant Orientation.
2:
Attend the Applicant Orientation to learn about the program and determine if you want to move forward with a State application. If you do, you will attend a 5-day safety week which will start the following Monday.
3:
The official BOLI Apprenticeship Registration Agreement Form will be emailed to you upon completion of orientation.
4:
Required Documentation: Proof of age. Documentation for the applicant point system is optional, but more points will get you higher on the qualified applicant list.
5:
All minimum qualification documents must be submitted by noon the Thursday following orientation.
6:
Completion of UA will be done Thursday, following orientation.
