COURSE INFORMATION:
Those working in the construction field encounter silica dust, and other hazardous materials, during many common construction tasks. Operating grinders, saws, drills, jackhammers, roto-hammers, and heavy equipment in demolition are some of the ways that a worker may be exposed to silica dust.
Exposure can lead to life threatening diseases, such as lung cancer, silicosis and other respiratory diseases that diminish a worker’s ability to perform their job.
This 4-hour class will identify the materials and tasks that create silica hazards. Silica Awareness training will demonstrate ways to protect yourself when exposed to silica dust and includes a heavy emphasis on respiratory protection and a hands-on approach to protection. You will also learn how to create a written exposure control plan through the job hazard analysis system.
The Silica Awareness in Construction class provides general hazard awareness of the risks of exposure to respiratory crystalline silica and is designed to educate construction workers in hazard recognition of silica exposure.
The class emphasizes the OSHA regulatory requirements for protecting employees who work with hazardous substances and materials that contain silica.
Using the Oregon OSHA Breathe Right guidelines, derived from the Federal OSHA Respiratory Crystalline Silica standard implemented in May of 2018, this course emphasizes the OSHA regulatory requirements for protecting employees who work with hazardous substances and materials that contain silica.
